On January 13, I'll be hosting a Typewriter Workshop at Harcourt House, from 12 pm to 5 pm. Price is $40 for members and $50 for non-members. I recommend signing up sooner rather than later if you're interested, as these workshops can get cancelled if registration is low!
Update on 1984 Cranes at Harcourt House
1984 Cranes is currently on display at Harcourt House until January 20, 2018! The opening had a decent turnout and went well, and the project seems to be well-received by viewers! Articles about the show are available in the December issue of BeatRoute and in the December 7 - December 14, 2017 issue of VueWeekly. Writer and editor Michelle Browne also published a fantastic essay about the project on her blog! I highly recommend reading it, as her input was instrumental in helping me develop the concepts of the project!
On January 20 at about 1 - 3 p.m. or so, I will be folding more cranes and teaching visitors how to fold their own cranes for a closing performance for the show. This is free to attend, so I hope to see you there!
1984 Cranes at Harcourt House
From December 7, 2017 - January 20, 2018, my exhibition 1984 Cranes will be open to the public at Harcourt House, Edmonton, Alberta. The opening reception will be December 7, 2017 at 7:00 pm.
This project is an installation of 984 cranes made from the book 1984 by George Orwell. The project is about fragility and inevitable failure, and uses the Japanese tradition of senbazuru (folding 1,000 paper cranes within a year) to discuss these themes. The project also compares and contrasts Orwell's 1984 with the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Elenor Coerr to face and discuss the possibility of failure.
The write-up about the exhibition is available on Harcourt House's website here.
