Biography
My name is Freyja (Frey) T. Catton, and I’m a nonbinary trans, hard-of-hearing, and neurospicy artist and writer based in Edmonton (Amiskwacîwâskahikan) in Treaty 6 territory.
I received my BFA from the University of Lethbridge in 2012 and my MLIS from the University of Alberta in 2021. I have been a practicing artist and writer in Edmonton for 15 years, and have been honoured to show my work in a variety of exhibitions and showcases both locally and in the US.
I have been fascinated with art and language for as long as I can remember. Art and language are both forms of mark-making and connection, both very powerful ways of learning and understanding the world. I am continually learning new mediums, techniques, and ideas, all of which lead me back my central themes of play and communication.
